Historical Event on 8/30/1979
Earl Louis Mountbatten of Burma, a World War II hero, last British Viceroy in India and the first Governor General of independent India, was killed when Irish terrorists exploded his family fishing boat off the coast of Ireland. The Provisional wing of the Irish Republican Army immediately took credit for the killing, which it described as 'an execution' designed to further 'the noble struggle to drive the British intruders out of our native land'.

8/19/1946	Cabinet Mission's plan announced an interim government, which was formed by reconstituting the Viceroy's Executive Council. The Muslim League took umbrage and started direct action. Riots broke out as Muslims attacked Hindu's in Calcutta and the rest of Bengal. The Viceroy persuaded the Muslim League to join the government. But the League declined to join the Constituent Assembly unless the demand for a seperate state of ""Pakistan"" was conceded.
10/15/1902	Bhaurao Krishnarao Gaekwad, great leader, was born. He was a colleagu of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
10/16/1976	Jalgaon Radio Station started broadcasting.
8/15/1947	Brigadier Thakur Mahadeo Singh was the first Indian Commandant. He was the DSO of Indian Militery Academy.
1/28/1933	India in Waldorf Hotel in London read out a four and a half page note in Cambridge.
9/26/1998	Sachin Tendulkar make a record 127 runs against Zimbabwe at Calcutta.
8/6/1994	The Muslim Auqaf Trust takes over charge of the Hazratbal shrine after the removal of security bunkers around it by authorities.
9/9/1999	Mr. V. Sudarshan, Foreign Editor of The Pioneer till recently gets the Appan Menon Award.
10/24/1984	First Metro Train (Underground Train) in India started between Esplanade and Bhowanipore in Calcutta city.
9/28/1940	Pundit Sunder Lal Sharma, freedom fighter and social reformer, passed away. He was also known as ""The Chhattisgarh Gandhi"".
