6/2/1953Mountaineer Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and his Nepalese Sherpa guide Tensing became the first men to conquer Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain. The two reached the pinnacle of Everest, more than 29,000 feet above sea level, at 11.30 a.m.

10/1/1932Indian Milatary Academy became functional with Brigadier LP Collins, DSO, OBE as the Commandant. The first course of 40 GCs had on its rolls Sam Manekshaw, Smith Dun and Mohd Musa, later to be Chiefs of the armies of their respective countries, i.e. India, Burma (now Myanmar) and Pakistan. This training was for a period of two and a half years.

6/19/1997Indian flag cargo ship, M. V. Arcadia Pride, sinks in inclement weather, seven nautical miles off Colaba, Mumbai, leaving four sailors dead and 20 missing. In the rescue and search operation by the Indian Navy, nine persons were rescued.
