P. V. Narasimha Rao was sworn in as the ninth Prime Minister of India. He reimained in this office till May 16, 1996. He formed a 54-member ministry in the 10th Parliament.

6/19/1901Raj Chandra Bose, Indian mathematician and statistician, was born at Hosangabad in Madhya Pradesh. He made many valuable contributions to the subject. He discovered new codes for telecommunication. In 1976, America's highest honour to a scientist came to Bose as he was elected Fellow of the US Academy of Sciences.
4/27/1960Presidential orders were issued on the report of the Committee of Parliament on official Languages which includes issues relating to preparation of terminology (Hindi glossaries, Hindia translation of codes and procedural literature, imparting training in Hindi to employees propagation of Hindi, language of bills, language to be used in the Supreme Court and High Court etc).
11/25/1998Prof. K. S. Hegde (75), former Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University and educationist, dies in New Delhi. He was selected by the Government of India for overseas scholarship for post graduate studies and higher technical training abroad during the pre-independence era.
8/15/1947Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru becomes the first Indian Prime Minister of free India.
